News from Adelina Demidova 🧡

Good evening! Adelina spent the entire week in the hospital on IVs. She received antibiotics, antifungals, and platelet transfusions. She felt well, her appetite had returned, but some nausea persisted. We had a cardiac echo this week, and the nephrologist said everything was fine. We had an echocardiogram because preparations for the third transplant had begun. The next day, we saw an audiologist. The audiologist disappointed us. Adelina began losing her hearing, dropping by two units. This was due to high-dose chemotherapy. The doctors said they might have to reduce the dosage, as per protocol. Unfortunately, her hearing cannot be restored. A PET scan was also scheduled for June 30th.

On Friday, all her tests were fine, and Adelina was sent home until yesterday, Saturday. Of course, Adelina ran home happy; she even walked around a bit. She limps, but she's already walking, and that's a joy. At home, Adelina was happy, playing, and eating. On Saturday evening, we returned to the hospital, and Adelina's tummy started hurting really bad, along with gastrointestinal issues. They took blood tests that night. On Sunday morning, the doctor came and said we were starting chemotherapy (it's been 21 days). Her lab results are normal, and the doctors want to start it sooner while she's feeling well and her lab results are good. They adjusted the chemotherapy so her kidneys can handle it. The chemotherapy will last three days, then a day off and the transfer. Adelina is already swollen, not eating, her voice has gone shaky, and she's become lethargic.
